Buffalo Jambalaya 2002 and the Baltimore Folk Music Society are proud to present the first ever mid-Atlantic appearance of Louisiana's hottest Zydeco band, Keith Frank and the Soileau Zydeco Band. Also returning to Buffalo Jambalaya are perennial favorites the Bruce Daigrepont Cajun Band and zydeco veteran Willis Prudhomme with D.C. favorites Zydeco Crayz. Our dance teachers this year are the internationally famous teams of Chris Trahan & Janine Dugas for Cajun and Ben Pagac & Debbie Shaw for zydeco. Buffalo Jambalaya transforms beautiful Buffalo Gap Camp in West Virginia into an authentic Cajun/zydeco community. Not only do we have the best in music and dance, we offer great musical instrument workshops led by our guest artists. There are dance workshops for all levels of dancers from beginners on up and special events focus on making your weekend a true Louisiana experience. Our talented performers will lead Cajun/Creole culture sessions as they share their experiences of growing up in SW Louisiana; talented craft artists will help you create that perfect Mardi Gras mask or costume; and you'll enjoy gourmet food with a Louisiana flavor prepared by our professional chef. All in all, BJ2002 will be the best camp in our 14-year history! |

Keith Frank and the Soileau Zydeco Band. Also returning to Buffalo Jambalaya are perennial favorites the Bruce Daigrepont Cajun Band and zydeco veteran Willis Prudhomme with D.C. favorites Zydeco Crayz. Buffalo Jambalaya 2002 is very proud to have Keith Frank and the Soileau Zydeco Band make this the highlight of their first tour out of Louisiana. Keith comes from one of the most famous families in zydeco music. Playing since 1993, they are the most sought after zydeco band in Louisiana. Keith records for Shanachie Records. Bruce Daigrepont Cajun Band is one of Buffalo Jambalaya's most popular bands. Playing traditional Cajun music for 22 years, his band has the longest running Cajun gig in New Orleans, playing the Sunday fais-do-do at legendary Tipitina's. Bruce records for Rounder Records. A real legend in zydeco music, Willis Prudhomme has been playing since 1976. Willis plays a combination of Creole and zydeco music and will be backed up by local favorite Zydeco Crayz. Those who have seen Willis at our camp in the past, know he brings a very special energy and spirit to everything he does. Ben Pagac and Debbie Shaw have taught zydeco all over the United States, in Europe and on the Zydeco Cruise. They are also well known for their excellent dance videos. Chris Trahan and Janine Dugas are champion dancers from Lafayette, LA who are instrumental in preserving the traditions of Cajun music and dance. They perform with Renaissance Cadienne, a troupe dedicated to traditional Cajun music and dance, and Janine is a founding member of Krewe de Canaille, the only Cajun dance Mardi Gras krewe. Also featured this year is special dance instructor "Crazy John" Sowizel. John is a dance instructor from New York who offers his unique expertise in partnering skills. |
